/ Menorca under the sea
A protected sea
Menorca has been a Biosphere Reserve since 1993 and, since 2019, it has also been the largest Marine Biosphere Reserve in the Mediterranean, with more than 514,000 hectares under protection.
The island also has two specific marine reserves: the Northern Marine Reserve and the Illa de l’Aire Marine Reserve in the south.
These are two ‘reserves within the reserve’, where marine life reveals itself in all its diversity.
Among these clear waters, there are also Neptune grass meadows—protected in the Balearic Islands—one of the great treasures of the Mediterranean.
